Doom and bleakness have marked the end time for the Algerian and Ghanaian football squads which many considered to have been among the favourites of the ongoing 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Thursday’s 3-1 spanking on the fennec of Algeria was a strong indication of things falling apart and the centre not being able to hold seeing the silver coveted AFCON trophy journey to a yet-to-be known destination.
Ghana, Cape Verde, and Ethiopia have succeeded in leaving a good record throughout the tournament despite their sudden departure in the early morning of the competition. The teams have been rated among the top losers with an outstanding record.
After three games, the Ghanaian squad succeeded in creating 17 goal chances, 11 shots on target, 14 accurate crosses, 55 accurate long balls, 710 successful passes, 3 goals recorded.
The Walias of Ethiopia had orchestrated 22 goal chances, recorded 12 shots on target, 11 accurate crosses, 94 accurate long balls, 1106 successful passes, and left with one point
The Cape Verde side failed to show up and impress performance but created 16 chances, 7 shots on target, 12 accurate crosses, 121 accurate long balls,988 successful passes, and recorded 2 goals.
The top five teams with the least total shots in the second group stages of AFCON 2021include: Sudan with five shots, Guinea with five shots, Ghana and Gambia with six shots, and Equatorial Guinea standing with seven shots.
Though eliminated, team Sierra Leone has been applauded for their brilliant performance, with one of the youngest keepers Mohamed Kamara just 22, but full of great keeping potential.
