Indomitable Lions forward Vincent Aboubakar has reach Laurent Pokou’s goalscoring record, after his two goals scored during Saturday’s third place game against the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium.
The former Coton Sport forward has scored eight goals in five matches, a similar record to that of Ivorian Laurent Pokou’s put up during the 1970 Nations Cup in Sudan.
However, Congolese forward Ndaye Mulamba Pierre remains the highest goal scorer with 9 goals in the history of the African soccer mass competition in 1974.
At 30 Aboubakar is perceived to be the highest goal scorer to have reached the semi-finals of a Nations Cup. With thirty-five goals and eighty-seven caps for the national colours.
