Indomitable lions forward, Maxime Eric Choupo Moting and left back Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo, have backed Cameroon to qualify for the 2019 AFCON, ahead of Comoros. The lions threw their weights behind the defending champions shortly after their 7th training session this Thursday morning, at the yaounde Omnisport Stadium.
Coach Clarence Seedorf and his boys take on the Coelacantes of Comoros on Saturday 23 March, at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium, in a do or die round six AFCON qualifying game.
The indomitable lions are in their fourth day of camping, with seven training sessions already completed. This Thursday morning, Seedorf and his boys had an in_camera session at the Omnisport Stadium in yaounde.
Speaking to reporters after the session, Maxime Eric Choupo Moting and Oyongo Bitolo, highlighted the importance of Saturday’s game, tipping Cameroon as favorites to grasp a ticket and defend their crown in Egypt, come June 2019.
When asked about the spirit in the lions den, Choupo Moting said “the ambiance in camp is very good. we know that the match is very important for everyone and we need to take it very serious. I think we are favorites because we are playing at home. We have confidence, but we know that it is not going to be easy”.
On how he will help the lions get the much needed goals, Choupo Motong hinted. “I will give everything to play good and of course I will try to give an assist or score as well. The most important is the performance as a team”.
On his part, left back, Oyongo Bitolo admitted that the team was not on the front foot during the first leg, but he is confident that Saturday’s encounter will be different. “In the away game, we allowed Comoros to play but now we are at home and I think we have to dominate play and impose our playing style. We have the opportunity to qualify. It is the last match, especially at home and I think we are going to have a good result, and qualify“.
Cameroon need just a draw from Saturday’s game to qualify, meanwhile it is a must win game for the Coelacantes. The Comorians are expected in Yaounde this Thursday.
