Ahead of their semifinal clash against the Desert Foxes of Algeria, Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has cautioned his teammates not to fall for the antics of the Algerians, even as the Eagles remain confident of picking the needed win on Sunday.
The Chelsea defender, who has been one of the Eagles’ most consistent performers at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, stated that they must work on their setpieces defending if they are to overcome the Algerians who are quick on the ball.
“We have conceded two goals from setpieces and they were just easy free-kicks to concede from. The best way is to stay focused and switched on.
“We know they are quick on the ball and we are also quick as well, so we have to be very careful around the 18-yard box and try not to give them easy balls to come at us,” Omeruo said.
The experienced defender further played down the ugly incident that happened in Algeria’s win over Ivory Coast when defender Ramy Bensebaini attempted to get Wilfred Zaha sent off, saying that the Eagles must stay smart and think ahead of their opponents whilst also urging the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to checkmate such incidents should it occur in the game.
Super Eagles of Nigeria will play the Desert Foxes of Algeria on Sunday July 14, 2019 for a spot in the final of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The winner of the tie will play the winner of the second semi final between Senegal and Tunisia which will be played earlier before Nigeria Vs Algeria kick off.
