The 2019 African Cup of Nations has closed its chapter with Algeria’s Ismaël Bennacer as the best player of the tournament.
The Algerian midfielder had a wonderful outing in Egypt that gave him every reasons to gain the title.
Bennacer was part of Algeria’s starting XI for the 7 matches they played in Egypt.
The former Arsenal player won the man of the match award twice. One in their opening group stage game against Kenya where he also provided an assist for Algeria’s 2-0 win.
When Algeria narrowly edged a 1-0 victory against Senegal in the group stage, Bennacer was again the name on lips as Man of The Match.
This was not enough as after the group stage, he was crowned best player of the first round and also featured in CAF’s best XI for the first round with teammate Riyad Mahrez.
His play never died as he gave 3 assists, with 5 key passes winning a pass success of 86.5%.
He was dispossessed seven times in the tournament where he won 10 successful tackles and 12 successful dribbles.
He is poised to continue these moves in his new club AC Milan.
