The President of the Nigeria Football Federation has insisted that Super Eagles of Nigeria Coach, Gernot Rohr will not be Sacked despite the exit the semi final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently holding in Egypt.
The Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Pinnick confirms this on Monday as he opines that the coach will remain in the job as the Federation still have complete confidence in him.
“Gernot Rohr has taken us to the semi final, the target we set for him. …Right now, we have a third-place match to play for and we intend to have our team leave Egypt with honours,”
“There are some people that have been calling on me and the federation to sack Gernot. But I am not going to do that. In fact, Gernot is going on a refresher training period with FC Bayern Munich after AFCON 2019. We have a long-term plan with him.” Pinnick Continues.
“We have had rocky and difficult moments in our relationship, but this is normal in any relationship between two people. He is a good coach and we want him to remain with us. That said, we will work together on what needs to be improved upon.” He concludes.
Super Eagles will have to settle for a third/fourth place match on July 17 against Tunisia after losing the semi final match 2-1 to Desert Foxes of Algeria on Sunday while Algeria will face SENEGAL in the final of AFCON 2019.
