A Wasteful Cameroon team in the first 20 minutes of the clash on Tuesday evening at Ismaïla could have been enough to pick up 3 points and start their AFCON title defense in style with a 2 nil win against Guinea.
Guinea won a 22nd minute corner but it was wasted cleared by Choupo Moting to set Cameroon on the counter.The multiple attempts to unlock the tied Guinéa defense ended with the ball on the feets of Midfielder Zambo Anguissa who shot narrowly wide.
Joyskim Dawa would pick a fine 27th minutes pass from Zambo but couldn’t play in an accurate cross.
In the 30th minute a wonderful series of passes ended on the feet of Dawa but he couldn’t keep the ball in.
Zambo Anguissa would prick Toko Ekambi with a long range pass from 40 yards and the Villarreal man got the ball under control and played in Bassogog unmarked in the box but Bassogog shot wide.
Toko and Bassogog appeared more lively upfront, Bassogog through a cross picked Joyskim Dawa upfront but the defenders excellent header was put away by Jonas Mendes.
A comic 39th error from Andre Onana nearly gifted Guinea a chance to take the lead but the Cameroon back line recovered to clear the ball away.
Arnaud Djoum would start a 42nd minute attacking action by breaking a Guinea Bissau attacking with a tackle in the Cameroon half before picking the ball to transfer it to Bassogog who created space in the box and played in Choupo but the alert Guinéa back line put it away
A minute later Toko Karl Ekambi came knocking the Guinea door again thanks to a wonderful Ngadeu Michael pass but the little space he found in the box was closed.
Bassogog and Oyongo got the last chances of the half but poor controls gave away the opportunities in the single minute of additional time.
At Half Time it was Cameroon 0-0 Guinea Bissau with Cameroon looking more daring.
The first 5 minutes of the second segment was all Cameroon as the Lions through Choupo and Bassogog came close thrice in 6 minutes but poor finishing was their undoing.
A lazy back pass to Cameroon’s Andre Onana nearly played in Frederick Mendy but Onana did enough to put the ball off his goal cage.
Toko Karl Ekambi got a 55th minute chance but his shot went wide.
Brito Toni Silva will pick a bookings for his troubles after he foul Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa in the edge of the Guinea box but the set piece from Ambroise Oyongo was wasted.
Guinea Bissau into the game spell of possession ending on the feets of Frederic Mendy but his long range effort went wide.
Cameroon won a corner which was directed to the head of Yaya Banana on the 69th minute goal.
Coach Seedorf reacted to the goal by bringing in forwards Cedric Bahoken and Njie Clinton for Toko Karl Ekambi and Arnaud Djoum.
With his first touch of the game, AFCON debutant Stephane Cedric Bahoken made it 2 nil for Cameroon in the 71st minute.
The Cameroonian team became lively trying to catch their Guinéan opponents but the end product was their undoing.
Captain Eric Choupo would be replaced by another AFCON debutant Olivier Boumal as coach Seedorf freshened his team.
Cameroon would remain solid in the 10 minutes of regulation time until additional when Center back Juary Soares was picked by a carefully executed corner into the box but his finish led him down.
At full time time it was the fans in the stands who responded to the Lions.
