The Elephant of Cote Divoire qualified to the round of 8 of the African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Mali at the Suez stadium.

Wilfred Zaha’s goal in the 79th minute gave his team the continued dominance over Mali in the AFCON.

Today’s win makes it the the fifth time in AFCON Cote Divoire has defeated Mali as they also won in 1994, 2008, 2012, 2015.

The Eagles of Mali had last won Cote D’ivoire in 1977 in a competitive match.

The game saw the Malian side dominate but they failed to make their dominance count.

A defensive slip gave Wilfred Zaha the opportunity as he came one on one with the Malian goalkeeper as he slotted the ball home.

The Malian team tried coming back as there was a last minute save by the Ivorian goalkeeper which made sure the elephants took the day.

Côte Divoire will play the winner of Tunisia and Ghana game in the quarter finals.
