The Confederation of African Football has decided to hand out a $10 000 fine to Algeria due to crowd trouble created by their fans in the AFCON Semi-Final game against Nigeria.
During the semi final game against Nigeria, some Algerian fans went into a row reserved for the Egyptian fans because the Egyptian fans celebrated Nigeria’s equaliser.
Algerian journlist, Maher Mezahi reports that CAF officials indicated in their match reports that Algerian supporters in CAT 3 started throwing water bottles at Egyptian supporters in the East stand at the the 72nd minute.
It is understood that CAF officials also reported that some Algerian supporters tried to jump the barrier and attack Egyptian supporters.
CAF sources say The $10 000 fine is suspended for now and will only be imposed if Algerian supporters are guilty of similar behaviour in the final.
About ten thousand additional Algerian fans came into Cairo for the game against Nigeria and more will join them for the final against Senegal everything being equal.
The government of Algeria has put measures in place to ensure that more fans travel for the final this Friday.
It will be hoped that the fans are of good behaviour as their team seek to win the AFCON title that eluded team for 29 years on Friday.
