The Desert Foxes of Algeria may probably have an added advantage over the Indomitable lions of Cameroon caused by the ongoing saga between Samuel Eto’o Fils President of Cameroon Football Association FECAFOOT and the Minister of Sports and Physical Education led by Prof Narcisse Moulle Kombi, when both teams meet for the qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Since the Indomitable lions of Cameroon under Portuguese lead trainer António Conceição da Silva Oliveira lost their semi final game against the Pharoahs of Egypt in the just ended AFCON 2021 hosted by Cameroon, fans have been on the opinion that António Conceicao be sacked with Patrick Mboma as possible replacement. While some online platforms have reported that Ringobert Song has been appointed new head coach.

How the feud started

Days ago during a program on Cameroon state media MINSEP boss Narcisse Mouelle Kombi stated clearly he is fully in support of Conceicao staying at the Helm of the lions ahead of the World Cup qualifiers barely two months, which is almost impossible for a new coach to take over a team and produce good results.

In a recent press release by Cameroon FA boss Samuel Eto’o Fils, quoted article 9 of 2015, stating the FA is in charge of hiring and keeping a coach bit under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports. This therefore implies MINSEP boss has no powers to decide whether a coach stays or is sacked.

Wednesday February 16, 2022, during FECAFOOT’s second general assembly under the leadership of Samuel Eto’o, attending members gave 72 hours to the FA boss to decide the fate of the lead trainer, a very tight situation. Considering the short duration given to decide on a coach who has been involved in 24 games with the lions, 15 wins, 7 draws and just 2 defeats, Eto’o via another release, pleaded with the members of the general assembly to give him more time.

With all these going on while the World Cup qualifier is drawing nearer, football pundits are on the opinion that the lions may miss out on the 2022 Qatar World cup after missing out in Russia 2018.

If Antonio Conceicao is sacked, it is almost impossible to replace him and bring in someone who will easily understand the team and produce fruitful results against desperate Algerians who were easily eliminate from the AFCON 2021 during the group stage. So far Conceicao’s fate depends on the mercy of Eto’o

Meantime Algeria has been to Cameroon to inspect facilities and will camp in Equatorial Guinea for the double header against Cameroon on March 26, 2022 in Japoma and return leg on March 29, 2022 ib Algeria.
