Former Indomitable Lions’ forward, Pierre Achille Webo, is part of the technical staff of Istanbul Basaksehir that masterminded a heroic maiden Turkish league title win.

The club won their first Turkish Super Lig title after 1-0 win over Kayserispor, on match day 33 on Sunday July 19, 2020, with one game to spare

With 69 points, Istanbul Basaksehir are out of reach, with a seven points cushion over second placed Trabzonspor who were stunned at home 3-4 by Konyaspor.

Under the tutelage of coach Okan Buruk and his assistants, Achille Webo and Ekrem Dag the 30-year-old club defied all predictions to dominate the traditional teams like Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor.

Istanbul Basaksehir joins Bursaspor [2010] to become the only other club apart from Galatasaray [22], Fenerbahçe [19], Beşiktaş [15] and Trabzonspor [6] to win a Turkish league title since the league was founded in 1959.

Achille Webo played 54 league games with 24 goals for Istanbul Basaksehir from 2011-2013 and also had stints with Fenerbahçe, Osmanlispor and Gazisehir in Turkey.

The former Osasuna and Mallorca forward also represented the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 58 times, scoring 19 goals.

As a player, Webo won both club and personal accolades. He won the Uruguayan league title twice with Nacional Montevideo, won the Turkish League title with Fenerbahçe in 2014 as well as the Turkish Cup in 2013 and Super Cup in 2014 and was the Copa Sudamericana’s top scorer in 2002.

The 38-year-old native of Bafoussam is already making giant strides in his post playing career.
