Abeokuta All-Stars pipped Remo All-Stars 1-0 at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, Ogun State to win the 2022 All-Stars football event.
The event was part of an annual get-together among former footballers in the state.
Director for Student Activities, Babcock University, Dr. Osundina Olasunkanmi lauded the initiative.
“This is a very good development. This is my first time coming for an All-Star game like this and I think it’s a very laudable program and event that should be supported not just in a very small way but in a grand style. It’s an event that should be brought to the notice of the State Government. All-Stars is all about people that have given their talents, energy, and resources to develop society over the years. Right now, we may not say that they are retired because if they are retired, they are not tired.
“They still wanted to do more. In doing that, we need to find a way to make sure that we give them leverage and recognition because those that are stars right now will come to this level. When they see something to look forward to, then it will motivate them more.” He told www.kick442.com
The organiser of the event, Tunde Taiwo says the event is majorly to keep former footballers fit and healthy.
He said: “Sporting activities is an integral part of human life. All worm and no play make Jack a dull boy. It’s very good to engage in physical activities. For most of us who have played football in the past, it will be very dangerous for our health to abandon the game. We just have to keep fit. We have aged people in our midst, this kind of event will make them live long in good health. Corona pandemic disturbed a lot of activities, but once in a while, we invite our colleagues from different places. We have been to Abeokuta, so we invited people of like minds that can come together.”
The All-Stars event is an annual event meant to bring former footballers together and keep them fit for healthy purposes.
