The Limbe Football Club Association (LIFCA) took a giant step towards making the mini Interpol when a goal from their second half substitute Njanko Mbongo helped see off Options Sports.
The rivalry is in its first year but turning out to be one of the bitterest rivalries in southwest football, what made it more eventful was the fact that there are just three teams in pool C, and the winner of the crunching encounter on Sunday was set to take it all.
The stakes were high from the pre-match exchanges, but the first few minutes failed to live up to expectations, perhaps the two teams weary of each others attacking prioress.
The only real chance for LIFCA in the first segment came at the 39th minute when Bah Yanki was fouled in the Options area and the responsibility handed to Charles Ngah who eventually flopped his lines from six yards.
Options had a few chances of their own with Nebamkia Peter showing his class throughout, but it was LIFCA who conjured yet, another clearcut chance in the second half. This time, captain Lane Lakem’s dinked effort hit the outside of the post.
The moment the whole LIFCA family waited for, came with the introduction of the pacy winger, Njanko Mbongo. The winger used his pace, and skill to blast the ball passed Benjamine Munya at the 66 Minute.
Option Sports then took control of the ball game but LIFCA’s experience with the continues break of play and good defending made the game finish at one – nil.
LIFCA are huge favourites to play the mini Interpol given that just three teams are present in group C with FUSSA being the weak link.
