In the second segment of the crunching encounter between Bamboutos FC and Cotonsport, Gerard Donald Bayegue received two yellow cards but stayed on the pitch.
Coach Laurent Djam was absolutely livid with the two – all draw his team recorded from a winning position against country giants Cotonsport in their delayed match day 28 fixture.
The gaffer who has virtually won it all on the local scene was fuming at his players for letting it slip and the referee for some abnormal decisions.
The referee seemingly forgot it was Bayege’s second yellow that was supposed to mean an automatic, usual long walk on the unwanted red carpet. Gerard Bayege however continued the game despite coach Laurent Djam’s attempt to bring it to the notice of the fourth assistant referee.
“The referee cannot give two yellow cards to the same player and the player continues. The videos we have are going to tell us more,” coach Djam said, hours after getting a full breather from the incident.
The 2017 Cameroon cup winner went on to praise Cotonsport for their continues fighting spirit: “we controlled the game and were at times over our opponents. I however admit that we made some errors towards the end. I don’t think we managed the game well enough towards the end. Cotonsport capitalised on that aspect but we needed the referee to be more precised, because it seemed at first sight – as though he had given a the advantage before pointing to the spot.”
Bamboutos FC are still serial title contenders and the win against temporal leaders PWD of Bamenda on match day 27 had a clear writing on the wall.
Bamboutos has a chance to bounce back from that frustrating draw on match day 29 when they travel to Loum to face outgoing Champions UMS.
