The popularly known January All-Stars, a program set up by the Association of Nigeria Women Football Club Coaches (ANWFCC) at National Stadium, Lagos has been a prosperous and progressive women’s football tournament in the country.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Association (ANWFCC), Olajide Royal, the first women’s football tournament in the year commences every first 2 weeks of January every year.
It has witnessed a lot of women’s football stars and legends that have taken part as the 2023 edition will be making the 27th edition.
The likes of Cynthia Uwak, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Asisat Oshoala, Ayisat Yusuf Aromire amongst others have played in the All-Star game.
Preparation is top-notch for the 2023 edition as organisers are working towards getting more sponsors. Some sponsors are already on ground as the organisers continue to push for more.
This grassroots women’s football program is a blessing to upcoming players as well as professionals.
The program has helped a lot of players to progress after being scouted giving them the opportunity to play for the national teams and clubs in the country.
The organisers in a press statement also gave kudos to www.kick442.com for supporting women’s football in the country alongside other online media outlets as it continues to solicit more support from the media.
The organisers solicit more sponsors and believe in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) to help in adjusting the league calendar to enable professional players to take part in the program every year.
The 2022 edition of the All-Star women’s football tournament was won by Romania after defeating England in the final.
The final of the tournament attracts Ex-internationals (former Super Falcons players) that do grace the occasion annually to encourage the young ones.
2023 All-Stars will take place at the Hockey Pitch and Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from 9th – 22nd January 2023.
