The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was on Monday notified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off round between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana will now take place on new dates.
NFF confirm this in a press release by the Federation’s Communications Department.
The opening leg at the Cape Coast Stadium will now take place on Friday, 25th March, starting from 7.30 pm Ghana time, which will be 8.30 pm in Nigeria. It was earlier scheduled to be played on Thursday, 24th March.
As against the earlier date of Sunday, 27th March, the return match between both fierce rivals will now hold at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March, starting from 6 pm Nigeria time.
Super Eagles crashed out of the 2021 AFCON at the Round of 16 after winning all three Group games.
The Nigeria side had since added former African Footballer of the Year and former coach of Tanzania, Emmanuel Amunike into the coaching set up to assist coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Black Stars on the other crashed out from the group stage of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and recently appointed Chris Hughton as the team’s Technical Adviser.
The winner of the clash will qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
