Discussants at the 2022 SheFootball Conference organised by Ayisat Yusuf Aromire Foundation have encouraged women footballers to make good use of social media to their benefit.
Supersports TV Presenter and content creator, Chisom Mbonu while charging the girls says education is important to their football career.
“Education is important for women’s footballers. Play and get an education because after football, there is something you have to rely on. It is very important as a player to have a sort of media training to guide you on what to say and post on social media. Use the media to sell your brand on how to defend yourself, team, and organisation.”
Sports lawyer, Mrs. Beverly Agbakoba says the spotlight should now be on women’s football as there are opportunities to invest in the women’s game.
She said: “It’s high time we started to put the spotlights on women’s footballers because they have been left behind for decades. This is not only peculiar to Nigeria but a global thing. From now, we are seeing FIFA begin to reason why women’s footballers should be brought into the spotlight. At the end of the day, women are the backbone of society. Why are we leaving our women’s footballers behind? It’s so wonderful that Ayisat Yusuf Aromire is doing this to help empower these women. Nobody else wants to do this but she has taken it upon herself as a former professional footballer to make that these women get the right training and receive the right professional support from people like myself (as a professional sports lawyer).
“I still have more male clients than women and that should change. We want to see more gender diversity in the football industry in Nigeria. We want the Women Football League in Nigeria not to be relegated to the background. The Super Falcons have done well for the country. The Nigeria Football Federation needs to support them. There are opportunities to invest in women’s football. Sports is no longer business as usual and not charity. It’s now business. If sports is business, we need to see these players as assets.”
Royaltoms International Football Academy captain, Ola Olaronke stated the importance of the conference to players.
“The speakers exposed us to what we were not exposed to before now. The legal and media aspects of sports. We were encouraged to miss education with our football career. I will work on what I have learned at this conference. It’s not easy missing football with school but I know that with God, everything will be alright.”
6-year-old footballer, Mac Bella who was specially invited as a guest by Ayisat Yusuf Aromire says she is happy to be at the conference and wants to be a footballer like those present at the conference.
SheFootball Conference is an annual conference aimed at charging and educating young women footballers in their career path.
