The 33rd edition of the amount Cameroon race of Hope gets underway this weekend February 19,2022 in the City of Legendary Hospitality, Buea, South West Region of the country.
About 454 Athletes drawn from across international Boundaries are set to Challenge the “Chariot of the gods in four different Categories.
There will be 35 contenders in the Junior women’s Category and 94 in the Junior Men’s Category. Meanwhile the Senior women and Men Category will see 65 and 260 participants respectively.
Last year’s winner, 26-yearold Kitang Mildred and 24-year old Tatah Carine who was runner up are amongst the sixty five competitors involved in this year’s race. Mildred outsmarted Tatah Carine who came first in 2020.
While, 24 year old champion in the Senior Men’s Category, Ali Mohammadou covered the 38 kilometers race course from the Molyko Omnisport Stadium to the mountain and back in 4 hours 32 minutes, backing home the trophy and 10 million CFA Frs cash prize.
Five Time Men’sChampion, Godlove Gabsibuin who hails from Nkambe, Northwest Region of Cameroon came 2nd last year finishing the race in 4 hours, 45 minutes. He emerged champion in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2020. He went back with a 7 million CFAF cash prize.
FECATHLETICS President, Motomby Emmanuel Mbome has been amongst those who spearheaded the race and for a while now the race has been done under his Patronage. He had this to say in an Interview about this year’s edition of the Race.
” I tell you this year’s 2022 Mount Cameroon race of hope, there will be many surprises, there might also be a special guest and we hope that our athletes from South West region who have proven that they could do it better, they should real work hard because it’s really going to be competitive…”
The 33rd edition of the Mount Cameroon race of Hope is scheduled for Friday 18th and Saturday 19th February 2022.
