In view of their 2022 FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifiers game against Sierra Leone next month, newly appointed Liberia coach Peter Butler has made public a list of 13 Liberian overseas-based players who have been invited to prepare for the game.

24 year old Sweden born midfielder Seth Kanteh Hellberg who plays for Swedish second tier side IK Brage is amongst the invited players.

Hellberg was born in Sweden to a Liberian mother and a Swedish father.

He joined IK Brage from Syrianska FC and had also previously played for Brommapojkarna, all Swedish based clubs.

Mohammed Sangare from Newcastle United’s Under 23s, team captain William Jebor from Al Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, Eugene Swen from Energetik in Belarus and Oscar Murphy Dorley from Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic are amongst the players invited for the game.

The big miss will be veteran forward Anthony Laffor, due to injury. He has not played a game for Mamelodi Sundowns since that 3-0 win over Nigeria’s Lobi Stars on March 9, 2019 in the African champions league.

Butler will complete the team with a selection of home based players this week, after following Liberia’s LPRC Oilers and LISCR FC in the African champions league and Confederations Cup over the weekend.

Liberia will play against Sierra Leone on September 4, for the first leg game in Liberia and then travel to Freetown for the return leg game four days later.
