2016 African Referee of the Year who did so well at the 2021 AFCON, Bakary Papa Gassama will take charge of Cameroon’s crunch FIFA world cup qualifier return-leg game against the Desert Foxes this Month.
kick442.com has been reliably informed that the FIFA referee will lead a team of match officials in the decider at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida
The night game program to kick off at 7:00 PM local time on March 29 will see Cameroon embark on a mission to qualify for the eighth FIFA World cup.
Papa Gassama took charge of Cameroon’s semi final of the 2021 AFCON against Egypt which amounted to elimination of the host. He is credited to have managed that game for 120 minutes without the use of the Video Assistant Referee. He was also in charge of the draw game against Nigeria in the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier. The experienced referee comes with a huge profile having also participate at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, he also won the CAF referee of the year 2016.
The celebrated African referee will be will be assisted by a team of officials including a VAR team of specialist from Germany.
The Desert Foxes of Algeria who were at the 2018 FIFA World Cup are Cameroon’s last opponent in the race to reach Qatar in November this year.
Both sides will clash on March 25 at Japoma-Douala in a first-leg game to have Botswana’s Joshua Bondo as Referee before heading to the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida-Algeria four days later to meet Mr Gassama.
The desert Foxes of Algeria who exited the recent AFCON at the group stages are seeking a fifth qualification to the FIFA World Cup while an aggregate win in the tie for Cameroon will take them through to their eighth FIFA World Cup tournament.
The importance of this fixture to coach Djamel Belmadi of Algeria and recently-appointed Rigobert Song of Cameroon can’t be overemphasized.
