The Atlas Lionesses of Morocco have once again picked up another win in Match day 2 of the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations, this time against Uganda to progress to the quarter final stage of the Competition.
The Crested Cranes Senior Women National Football Team returned to action on Tuesday, July 5th,in search of Positive results after dashing away all three points to Senegal(0-2) in the opening game.
Morocco beat Uganda 3-1 to send them a step out of the Competition as the Cranes meet Senegal next in gala match to complete bid farewell from the 14th edition of the competition.
The first 45 minutes produced two goals from Morocco’s striker, Ayane Rosela, and Uganda’s defender, Komuntale Sumaya and 2 Second half goals from El-Chad and Chebakk of Morocco.
Moroccan and Tottenham Hotspur forward, Rosela Ayane, open scores at the Mandela National Stadium from the penalty spot at the 14th minute.
The penalty advantage for the host of the 14th edition of the women’s set piece, came as a result of an opponent forward brought down in the box.
Morocco kept the lead until the 32nd minute of play when a free was awarded to Uganda and Sumaya Komuntale, scored the stunning free kick that surprised goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi and found the back of her net.
The goal scorer for Uganda, Sumaya got booked shortly after for foul play alongside her co-defense woman, Nakibuuka Asia, committing a similar offence.
Morocco got the better of Uganda and hard more chances to covert to goals but a defensive block from Sumaya and teammates at the defense compartment, help frustrate Morocco’s strikers who had a tough time trying to get a second goal.
The first segment of the game ended on a one all tie, with Uganda’s fate seemingly promising.
Sumaya seemed to have put Uganda on the road to the knockout when she marked her debut goal of the Competition but then the joy was short lived.
Morocco’s Captain assisted from a well and smartly taken free kick sent to El Chad and she netted a header, making it 2-1 at the 68th minute.
Morocco paid back the free kick scored in the first half against them to take the lead and this made things become more frustrating for coach Goerge William and her girls who needed at least a draw and most especially, a win to stay in the competition.
Coach Reynard Pedros brought in Sanaa Mssoudy for Salma Amani, to change the pace of the game which she did and for the minutes played, Sanaa made a difference.
Even Morocco’s first goal scorer of the encounter, Ayane was substituted in place of Ibtissam Jraidi to play the remaining 6 minutes of the game.
Uganda’s Lone goal scorer, Sumaya Komuntale was shown red at the 84th minute after a second Yellow that led to another Penalty advantage for Morocco.
Captain Ghizlane Chebakk walked up to the spot and made it goal number three for the host of the Competition.
Morocco has so far scored Five goals and conceded one to record six points from two games played as they look forward to their date with Burkina Faso.
Meanwhile, it’s now as bad as over for Uganda’s Women National Team who have failed to cross pass the Group stage of this edition of the Competition, though with one game handy against the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal.
In the same Group, Senegal beat Burkina Faso, to make it two wins from two games and up with the same point as Morocco.
