The African Athletics championship came to a close on Sunday June 12, with Cameroon leaving a mark, securing 2 medals, 1 silver and one bronze .
ESEME Emmanuel Alobwede finished second at the 200m final, securing a silver medal of the tournament . A race completed at 20.61 (W=+3.0).
Thé bronze medal was bag by Veronique Kossenda . The long jumper finished 3rd at the triple jump, with 13m35 , awarding her the bronze medal.
An athlete who came so close but ended up too far is Linda Angoulou.she was awarded lane first in the 400m hurdles final but fell short with a performance of 58.97, giving her the 4th position .
At the end of the tournament, Cameroon secured the 14th overall nation with 3 medals . Two silver medals, one by Nora Moni Atim at Women discus, and the other by Eseme Emmanuel. While Veronique Kossinda secured the only bronze.
With 3 medals in Cameroon’s closet this year, one can conclude that 2022 was a great year for Cameroonian athletes at the African athletics championship as we only won 1 silver medal in Nigeria 2020.
Cameroon will host the next edition of the tournament come 2024.
