Nigeria male basketball national team, D’Tigers defeated host, Rwanda 83-62 in their second group game at the ongoing 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers, www.kick442.com reports.
It was a 21 point game between Nigeria and Rwanda and D’Tigers make it two wins in two.
Nigeria got the first basket of the game through Ike Iroegbu who made a layup, and he then assisted Obi Emegano for 2 points shot before Elie Kaje got 2 points for Rwanda.
Firmly in control, Nigeria ended the first quarter with a 9 point lead. DTigers was a little bit better on the defence, not allowing Rwanda to go on a run.
In the second quarter, DTigers restricted the hosts from going on a run. Amaze Egekeze drew a foul, then converted one of his two free throws.
DTigers turned around the second quarter (25-15). Ike Diogu had assisted the other Ike (Iroegbu) before the former made a dunk and then Obi Emegano got into the action with a layup. Iroegbu sealed the second quarter with a 3 points shot. Rwanda 28- 47 Nigeria.
DTigers started the third quarter as they did in the second, but they could look to Ike Iroegbu and draw some inspiration because he played very well for the team. 3 points shot for Iroegbu who went up to 17points, and he then assisted Michael Gbinije.
Rwanda outscored Nigeria 24-19 in the third quarter, but the latter still had an overall lead.
It was tough playing against the host nation, in the end, what mattered was the victory. Nigeria secured two consecutive victories at the ongoing AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers beating Rwanda by 21 points to make it two wins under the new coach, Mike Brown.
Next up is another tough encounter with Mali on Sunday, November 29, 2020.
