The draws for the first round of the Cup of Cameroon for the South West Region has been programmed for Wednesday, February 10. With the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) concluding this February 7, it presents an opportunity for things to go back to normal in the football milieu.
“Draws for the first phase preliminary round of the cup of Cameroon for the South West Region shall take place on Wednesday 10 February at the FECAFOOT secretariat in Buea, Time 11:am,” information from SW FECAFOOT Bureau noted.
“All 2nd and 3rd division clubs within the Region with valid licences should take special note.”
The issue of licences was one of the major factors that led to some of the games in the regional league not take place. With the CHAN ongoing, clubs were allowed to apply for their licenses once more as the FIFA connect system was opened till the end of January.
The South West Region will be hoping that this time around the clubs can have a better performance in the Cup of Cameroon. For the past seasons, the teams in the region haven’t had a good showing in the competition. In 2019 season, EEMSA, Best Stars, and CUSA all went but were eliminated in the 32nd final.
Last year, Istanbul FA, who plays in the Divisional League, Regional League clubs Option Sports and H.O Academy, qualified to represent the region at the 32nd finals.
It should be recalled that Istanbul FA defeated Nkamanyi FA by 3 goals to 0. For Option Sports, they defeated H.O Academy on post-match penalties. H.O Academy had qualified for the finals as best losers. Unfortunately, with the coronavirus pandemic, everything was put on hold and no such competition took place.
