PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda have successfully broken the 1967 and 1979 Cup of Cameroon ill luck, beating Astres Football Club of Douala 1#0.
Chem Hubert scored the lone goal of the encounter within 15 minutes of play which concluded the battle played Sunday March 13, 2022 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
The victory for the Abakwa Boys in the encounter dubbed “Sports Excellence: Bedrock of living together and social progress for a united indivisible and prosperous Cameroon”, there increase Cup of Cameroon titles in the North West region to three after Kumbo Strikers in 2000, Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda in 2013 and PWD 2021.
Elouga Bikim’s whistle launched the 60th edition of the Cameroon Cup finals between PWD and Astres Football Club of Bamenda. The boys of coach Andre Mbarga Foe mounted so much pressure on PWD of Bamenda, winning four corner kicks in under 12 minutes but failed to convert any to a lead.
Fortunately the Abakwa Boys recuperated play goalkeeper Karim Bello send a long one up front which helped his side win a free kick, with a hard and direct strike, Chem Hubert went pass goalkeeper Jourdain Mbaynassem to give PWD the lead 1#0.
Chem Hubert’s goal reawakened the goal scoring ambition of Astres FC as they went in for more goals but their efforts were useless.
Andre Ulrich Zanga and Boung Joel Ondoa of PWD were all booked with a yellow card by the Center referee.
Second to the end of the first segment of the game, Chem Hubert picked up a loose ball from the median player forward, sent a true ball to John Paul Anzio Ngong, unfortunately he failed to impress the fans of PWD, sending both sides to the dressing room for first half break 1#0 in favour of PWD.
Ngwang Brian Nyaba immediately replaced John Paul Nzo Ngong upon return for the second 45 minutes. Once again Chem Hubert had another chance to chance to increase his goal tally and rather sent it into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Jourdain.
The Brazilians of Bepanda gained possession, Valentin Beo Batto went into PWD’s danger zone, sent a true ball but no one available to deliver a finishing.
Several attempts from the Abakwa Boys, good combinations between Tchoua Leger, Che Hubert and Mohammed Aboubakar but no goals came by.
An opportunity came knocking for Astres FC just inches away from the 18 meter box’s, Valentin Beo Batto’s free kick was brilliantly saved by Karim Bello denying an equalizer.
Seeking for equalizer coach Mbarga Foe substituted Steve Michel, Evang Faveur, Tetek Makon and Celestine Eloundou for Thierry Henri, Henri Baolonla, Christian Deugoue and Lemy Ichu who changed the tempo of the game. While Toucha Leger and Aboubakar Mohammed were replaced by Etienne Elong Ngong and Abessolo Ze for PWD of Bamenda.
All efforts from both sides to increase goals ended 1#0.
