Option Sports Limbe, EEMSA Tiko and Cinyodev FA have booked their ticket as SW representatives at the upcoming Cameroon Cup competition. The teams picked up their qualification ticket as they all won their last round qualification matches this Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25.
It should be recalled that the 2020 edition of the Cup of Cameroon did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amongst the teams that qualified for that edition, just Option Sports will be returning to the competition.
EEMSA and Cinyodev FA are not new in the Cup of Cameroon having participated in it not too long ago. EEMSA qualified for the Cup of Cameroon in 2018 and repeated that feat in 2019. While Cinyodev FA last participated in 2019 and option Sports qualified in 2020 and now in 2021.
How they qualified
Option Sports Limbe
Option Sports who will be making its first participation in the Cup of Cameroon qualified after beaten Continental FA (2-0) in the last round. Should the Cup of Cameroon not have been cancelled last year, the team would have made their first appearance.
Option Sports have come of age ever since they were created in 2019 and gained promotion into the Regional League. The Limbe side is unbeatable this season in all competitions. They eliminated one time winners of the Cup of Cameroon, Mount Cameroon FC 1-0 in the 3rd round.
EEMSA Tiko, formed to serve as a nursery for Tiko United during their heydays in Elite 1, has grown big and is now a major contender in the Regional League and participating in the 32nd finals of the Cup of Cameroon.
EEMSA won Best Stars 1-0 to pick up that much-cherished ticket into the Cup of Cameroon. Before beaten Best Stars EEMSA defeated Njalla Quan SA 2-1 (3rd round) and 5-4 on penalties against Njalla Quan (2nd round).
EEMSA has lost just once in all competitions this year and did avoid defeat in the Cup of Cameroon qualifiers. The team had to rely on players like Martin Egbe, Obase Nanje and Mbikeng Nyenti as contributing factors to their impressive campaign.
Cinyodev FA Buea
Cinyodev FA since losing to Prisons FC on the first day of play in the Regional League have turned their campaign around and have not lost any game since December last year. Impressively, the team is yet to taste defeat in 2021.
Cinyodev FA defeated Kumba Lakers (1-0) in the last round matches played at the Tiko Town Green Stadium. Cinyodev FA avenged their defeat against Prisons as the former eliminated the latter (1-0) at the 3rd round. Cinyodev had eliminated LIFCA (2-1) at the 2nd round.
Players like Graham Mbong, Motutu Junior, Ngale Tonga have been the driving force for Cinyodev FA in their qualification process.
The draws for the competition has yet to be announced but the South West Region and all football stakeholders will be hoping the Region can do better than their previous participation.
In 2019 all the SW representatives in EEMSA, Cinyodev FA and Best Stars all had dismal performances in the competition and were all eliminated in the first round.
Since Victoria United in 2017 (semi-finals), the Region has not fared better in the competition with elimination at the first go. Victoria United was beaten by eventual champions New Stars Douala.
