For the second season running the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership kicked off ahead of its men’s counterparts (NPFL) on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, across six centres.
The official opening game of the season between Delta Queens and defending Champions, Rivers Angels ended in a goalless draw.
Confluence Queens were the biggest winners with a 4-0 triumph over Pelican Stars in the club’s first league game under the tutelage of Coach Liadi Bashiru and Assistant Coach, Mene Paul.
Winifred Eyebohoria opened the scoring for Confluence Queens almost after kick-off before Mercy Omokwo scored the first hat-trick of the season in the 21st, 36th, and 84th minutes respectively to give the Kogi based side a comfortable win.

Bayelsa Queens recorded a 0-3 away win over Sunshine Queens in Akure with all goals coming in the first half.
Sunday Juliet scored the first goal in the second minute of play before two goals from Anjor Mary in the 41st and 44th minute sealed victory for the Yenegoa based side.

Naija Ratels FC won its first NWFL Premiership game, defeating Osun Babes FC 2-0 thanks to second-half goals by Adugbe Olamide and Agama Ziperekefhege.
Another newly-promoted side, Adamawa Queens suffered a 0-2 loss to Edo Queens with Chioma Olise and Emem Essien finding the back of the net.
Oke Maria’s 21st-minute header and Folashade Ijamilusi’s 38th-minute penalty propeled FC Robo Queens to a 2-0 triumph against Abia Angels in Lagos.
