The Nigeria Professional Football League kick-started this weekend with nine (9) matches played in nine (9) centres. At the end of the match day, twenty-three (23) goals were scored with (19) nineteen goal scorers with two (2) of the goals coming from the spot.
The game between Heartland and Nasarawa United produced the highest number of goals of (6) six while Akwa United and Kwara United were the highest winners of the day with three (3) nil wins.
Qudus Akanni scored the first goal of the season in Remo Stars’ 2-0 away win against MFM at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Lagos.
Remo Stars recorded the first away win of the season after beating Lagos side, MFM 2-0.
Remo Stars and Rangers International recorded the only away wins of the match day after beating MFM 2-0 and Katsina United 2-1 respectively.
Stephen Jude scored the fastest goal of the match day in the third minutes helping Kwara United to a three nil win over Dakkada International.
Ajibola Otegbeye scored the first brace of the 2021/2022 NPFL season as his club Nasarawa United drew three all away from home against Heartland FC.
Ajibola Otegbeye, Ossy Martins and Stephen Jude were the three players with a brace in match day one.
There were two draws in the match day, with Heartland and Nasarawa United playing a 3-3 draw at the Dan Ayam Stadium while Gombe and 3SC settled for a goaless draw.
Henry Ndidi of 3SC became the first player to be given the matching order in the 2021/2022 season after a second booking against Gombe United in the 83rd minutes.
Henry Ndidi and Rangers goalkeeper, Mutawakilu were the two players that saw red in the first game of the season.
