An unusual phenomenon takes place at the ongoing COSAFA under seventeen youth championship after four teams participating at the tournament got disqualified for of fielding over-age players.
Botswana, Comoros Islands, Eswatini and Zimbabwe who have all played a game at this year’s tournament which started on Thursday have their participation declared null and void.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Youth Competitions Committee made the decision to disqualify the teams from the zonal qualifier tournament for the 2021 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations after at leat one of the four team’s player failed the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans that were conducted in the Host Country prior to the start of the competition.
According to COSAFA.com, their punishment will see them miss the next two Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations, and by consequence the next FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Consequently, the 2020 under seventeen COSAFA tournament will restart in a round rubbing arrangement as the four remaining teams of go head to head on Sunday.
The winners of the ties advance to the finals to be played on the 29th of November, 2020.
Hosts South Africa open their campaign against Malawi while before that Angola and Zambia do battle.
