2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders, Akwa United extended their leadership points at the top of the table to four points after a 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Adamawa United on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Atshimene Charles gave Akwa United the lead in the 26th minute.
Mfon Udoh scored Akwa United’s second goal in the 45th minute.
Adamawa United coach made two second-half substitutions to cushion the effects of the first-half goals as Danjuma Jamilu and Yahuza Bala replaced Kenan Felix and Michael Buratai respectively.
Akwa United gaffer, Kennedy Boboye made four substitutions as he allowed Marshal Johnson, Nasiru Jibril, Eko Barine, and Samuel Amadi to get playing times.
Akwa United occupied the first position on the league table with 53 points from 28 games, four points ahead of Kano Pillars.
Kano Pillars will play Jigawa Golden Stars away on Sunday, June 20, 2021, to reduce Akwa United’s lead to one or three points depending on their result.
