The University of Bamenda played a spectacular semi final against the University of Dschang. The first half started with a dominated Dschang side who created many scoring chances. At the 26th minute, team Captain Nkwele Enowngene was sent off with a red card following a violent action against an attacker of Dschang University who attempted stopping him from executing a throw. UBa boys were rather motivated as they took over dominion. At the 65th minute, Abanke Eric of UBa surprised the goal keeper with a wonderful free kick that led to a goal. The Dschang side went in search for an equalizer but at the 87th minute, Abanke Eric directed a diagonal pass that was clinically finished by Njiberi Durell in a one-on-one situation.
This victory qualifies UBa to the first final in football since 2011 where they started participating. It is also worth noting that the final is the lone final that Nkwele Enowngene could have featured in but he won’t be part of the team again. In a post match chat with coach Anumewa Frankline, he felt satisfied that his dreams are coming true. “It was a difficult match, my captain made an error and received a red card. However, we dominated the match. We created chances that could yield us at least four goals but we sealed two. We are moving towards our aspirations. Our objective was to play the final and we have achieved. Now the next objective is to win the gold medal.” UBa shall play the final against Institute University of Golfe of Guinea.
