Senegal’s head coach at the ongoing 2019 AFCON tournament Malick Daf has told the media that Senegal who are currently 3rd in Group B after 3 group games are still in the tournament despite his side finishing out of the semi final places.
Senegal failed to win any of their 3 games in the Tournament recording 2 draws and a defeat but Coach Daf told the media after his sides virgin draw against Cameroon this Sunday that they remain optimistic and await the right decision from CAF.
“It’s clear, everybody can see,the laws are in place and should be used by the authorities in charge.Cases of doubled identity are punishable so let the authorities make a decision for the image of African football” Coach Daff said
Senegal have written an official complaint to CAF about Guinéa’s players Aboubakar Conte and Ahmed Tidiane Keita. Senegal is claiming the above mentioned players have represented Guinea at a different tournament with a different identity.
According to their protest, these players previously took part in the tournament” Under 16 International Dream Cup “, organized by the Japan Football Federation from 14 to 18 June 2017 in Japan and whose holding was authorized by FIFA with the different birth dates indicated as follows : Ahmed Tidiane Keita born December 31, 2001 and Aboubacar Conté born November 13, 2001, “reads the document.
To support this thesis, the FSF(Senegal Football Federation) has refered the governing body of African football to the website of the tournament in question. Senegal has also indicated that, in order to be eligible for the final tournament of the CAN U17 Tanzania 2019, “these two players have decreased their age by one year with the establishment of new passports different from those used during the Japan tournament in 2017 “and the Senegalese leaders to report that” the Guinean team is customary of the alleged facts with seven players recalibrated during pre-competition MRI tests including six at the qualifying tournament / West Zone held in Senegal and one in CAN U17 final tournament currently being held in Tanzania.”
The Guinea FA has denied any wrongdoings through a memo sent to the Secretary General of CAF within the last 48 hours.
The situation remains very tricky but in the meantime,Guinea that finished Runners up in Pool B will face Group A winners Nigeria in the first semi final at 4:00 PM on Wednesday while Group B winners Cameroon face Angola in the second semi final of the tournament on Wednesday.
