Cameroon midfielder Arnaud Djoum believes the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will have to work hard if they must defend their AFCON title in Egypt despite lodged in a fairly comfortable group.
Cameroon were paired alongside 2017 semi finalist Ghana,Benin and Guinea Bissau in Group F during the draw which took place in Cairo, Egypt on Friday.
The 27 year old former Anderlecht midfielder maintains that the five time champions of Africa’s most glorified trophy afcon,need to continue playing with thier current form in order to put up a remarkable performance come June 2019.
“If Cameroon plays with her current level of football,we will have all possibilities to go through the group phase. We need to work a lot to produce the expected result”
The 2017 AFCON champion however believes Cameroons group opponents,Guinea Bisseau and Benin should not be sidelined considering them as potential threats to another continental glory.
“We must not neglect our opponents. In modern football,there is no small nation. We need to be focused” Djoum disclosed.
Arnaud Djoum has made 20 appearance for Cameroon. He was part of squad that won the 2017 AFCON in Gabon with the midfielder playing full time in the final against Egypt.
Cameroon qualified for the 2019 AFCON only after during the last day qualifiers.
They beat Comoros Island 3-0 in Yaounde to finish runner-up to Morocco in group B.
The 32nd edition of the Total Africa Cup of Nations will take place from the 21st of June to the 19th of July 2019. It will be the first ever Biennial men’s football event in Africa with the expanded 24 team format as approved by the confederation of Africa Football,CAF.
