Weekend Round-up for Current and Potential Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon players have resume duties as usual this weekend making headlines through their performances across the globe.
Germany
There was a heavy defeat in the opening fixtures of the German Regionalliga for 23 year old Cameroon forward Menelik Chaka Ngu Ewodo and FC Memmingen against SV Turkgucu Ataspor Munchen at the Bezirkssportanlage Perlach-Nord Stadium. The home side were comfortable 4-2 winners. The Cameroon forward was thrown into the game at the 76th minute in place of Ensar Skrijelj, but it was too late for them.
30 year old Tiko born Cameroon defender Tabe Nyenty was at the heart of the defense of FC- Astoria Walldorf for the entire game in their 1-4 away win against TUS Rot-Weiss Koblenz.
FSV Frankfurt 1899 secured maximum points at home against TSG Balingen with a 2-1 win. Their 28 year old Cameroon defender Nestor Herve Djengoue played the entire game.
22 year old Cameroon defender Arthur Ekalle did not feature for Berliner AK 07 who defeated Bischofswerdaer FV 1908 by a score of 4-2. Coach Ersan Parlafan did not even give the Cameroon defender a place on the subs’ bench.
23 year old Douala born Cameroon forward Wilfried Siakam-Tchokoten was not on the match sheet for BFC Dynamo who secured a 3-1 home win against SV Babelsberg 03.
France
The French Ligue 2 also resumed over the weekend.
There was a high scoring 3-3 draw between Guingamp of Cameroon defender Felix Eboa Eboa and Grenoble Foot 38 of 24 year old midfielder Arsene Elogo Guintangui. Eboa was not on the match sheet for Guingamp while Elogo was introduced at the 80th minute to take the place of Florian Raspentino.
26 year old Cameroon defender Yannick Joseph Mbone was sent off at the 86th for a second yellow card for Chateauroux who lost 3-0 away to Clermont.
32 year old Cameroon defender Frederic Bong played the entire game on the right of a back three for Valenciennes who lost 1-0 away to Chambly through a 60th minute penalty.
20 year old Cameroon defender Guy-Marcelin Kilama Kilama was absent from the team sheet for Niort who lost at home 0-2 to Troyes. 19 year old French U-20 international Bryan Mbuemo opened the scoring at the 54th minute. He is still eligible to play for Cameroon.
Nancy and US Orleans played to goalless draw at the Stade Marcel Picot. Nancy’s new striker Ande Dona Ndoh who joint them this season from Niort where he played 172 games scoring 61 goals, failed to open his account. The 33 year old native of Meanja in Muyuka subdivision, played the entire game and saw yellow at the 78th minute.
Holland
23 year old Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana did not have a great AFCON 2019 with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, back at his Dutch club Ajax of Amsterdam, its business as usual as he was in goal and kept a clean sheet in their 2-0 win against PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup.
Belgium
It was opening day for the Belgium First Division A, Standard Liege of 26 year old Cameroon international defender Ngoran Suiru Fai Collins made it a winning start. They earned a 0-2 away win against Cercle Brugge. The Cameroon defender was not on the match sheet.
Fabrice Olinga Essono missed out of a place in Cameroon’s team for the 2019 AFCON. The 23 year old winger who struggled for playing time and goals last season looks to be a different player this season. After impressing in pre-season with goals and assists, he scored the lone goal at the 38th minute to give Royal Excel Mouscron a precious away win against Saint Truiden. He played the entire game just like his teammate and compatriot Frank Boya. Boya saw yellow at the 59th minute of the game.
William Dutoit was preferred in goal like most parts of last season over Fabrice Ondoa for Oostende who surprised Anderlecht with a 1-2 away win. Ondoa watched the game from the stands as he is still enjoying a break from the from the AFCON.
New recruit Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui is Gent’s most expensive signing of all times, the Cameroon defender is already looking like money well spent. He did not limit himself to his defensive duties, as he opened the scoring at the 56th minute but Gent failed to hold on to the advantage and earned a 1-1 draw away to Sporting Charleroi.
Royal Antwerp earned an emphatic 1-4 away win against Eupen, their new recruit from Karparty Lviv, 21 year old Cameroon midfielder Martin Hongla was not in the team for the game.
Portugal
In the Portuguese League Cup, Academica defeated Farense 4-3 in post match penalties after both teams played to a 1-1 after extra-time. 29 year old Cameroon forward Donald Dering Djousse was not on the match sheet for the game.
26 year old Cameroon forward Lewis Mbah Enoh who just joint Leixoes from Politehnica Iasi in Romania, also celebrated a win through penalties against CA Cova da Piedade after both teams played to a virgin draw at extra-time.
England
Cameroon defender Joel Matip and Liverpool were on the end of a 0-3 hammering from Napoli in a pre-season friendly. Matip played the first half of the game that saw Napoli take a two goal lead into the break.
Finland
23 year old midfielder Alain Richard Ebwelle scored his third goal of the season for VPS in their 1-1 draw against HJK in the Finland Veikkausliiga. He transformed a penalty at the 45th minute to give them a lead they failed to hold on to.
KuPS of 30 year old Cameroon forward Arnaud Thierry Ngueukam and 25 year old defender Luc Landry Tabi Manga lost away to KPV by a score of 2-1. Ngueukam played the entire game while Tabi Manga was a 90th minute substitute.
31 year old Cameroon forward Jean Fridolin Nganbe Nganbe did not feature for Haka who smashed EIF 6-2 in the Finland Ykkonen, that is the second tier, to extend their lead on the log to 10 points from TPS.
TPS traveled to face FF Jaro at the Jakobstads Centralplan and came back with all three points thanks to a 1-2 win. Their 24 year old Cameroon midfielder Alim Moundi played his 16th game of the season with two goals to his name already.
Norway
Cameroon midfielder Landry Nguemo made way at the 69th minute for Gang Dongwan in his team Kongsvinger’s 0-2 loss at home to Skeid Fotball in the Norwegian second tier.
Austria
In their Day one fixture of the new Austrian Bundesliga season, Cameroon midfielder Samuel Oum Gouet played the entire game for Altach Rheindorf against LASK while his teammate and compatriot Franck Tchidjui Pangop was not part of the team. Altach lost the game 2-0 as LASK made the most of their home advantage.
Switzerland
In Day Two matches of the Swiss Super League, there was a midfield battle between two Cameroonian midfielders when newly promoted Servette hosted FC Sion. New recruit Gael Ondua of Servette fought for every ball against Christian Zock Abep of FC Sion. The former Anzhi midfielder was replaced at the 58th minute by Boris Cespedes by Servette’s coach Alain Geiger, while Sion’s coach Stephane Henchoz kept faith in Zock till the end of the 0-0 draw.
Defending champions Young Boys of Berne secured a first win of the season against Neuchatel Xamax. Cameroon midfielder Freddy Mveng played the entire game for Xamax. Just like Jean Pierre Nsame and Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu for Young Boys. Ngamaleu scored the lone goal of the game at the 73rd minute.
Former Indomitable Lions midfielder Alexandre Song did not make the team sheet for Sion.
In the Swiss second tier, there was a first goal of the season for 17 year old forward Yvan Gregory Alounga Avebe for Aarau in their 4-1 win against SC Kriens. The native of Ebolowa scored Aarau’s third at the 90th minute and there was still time for a fourth.
Czech Republic
In Day Three matches of the Czech Republic 1st League, Pribam secured a 3-2 home win against Bohemians 1905 though their 23 year old Cameroon defender Olivier Juan Simo Kingue was not even on the bench
Slovakia
21 year old Cameroon midfielder Joss Moudoumbou Didiba was on the bench for the entire game for FK Senica who lost 2-1 away to SKF Sered.
Slovenia
In the Slovenian PRVA Liga, league leaders NK Olimpija Ljubljana and their Cameroon defender Macky Bangnack had to settle for a virgin draw away to Maribor. The Cameroon defender was present in the back four for Coach Safet Hadzic’s team for the entire game.
Cameroon forward Rodrigue Bongongui was brought on at the 69th minute for Stefan Stevanovic but he could not help his team avoid defeat away to NK Bravo as they were edged 1-0.
Estonia
There was an emphatic 0-3 win for FC Levadia Talinn away to Tulevik Viijandi. Cameroon midfielder Aime Marcelin Gando Biala played the entire game for Levadia Talinn.
Bolivia
26 year old Cameroon forward Marc Francois Enoumba and his team Always Ready were on the end of a 3-0 hammering from Jorge Wilstermann in the Bolivian top flight. The Cameroon forward saw yellow at the 46th minute. He played the entire game. That defeat now leaves them on the 5th position on the league table while Jorge Wilstermann remains top with 12 points after 4 playing days.
USA
In the MLS, Cameroon defender Olivier Mbaizo was not on the team sheet for Philadelphia Union in their 4-0 loss to Montreal Impact.
Cameroon left-back Nouhou Tolo played the entire game and did not put a foot wrong for Seattle Sounders FC who imposed a 0-1 away win against Houston Dynamo.
In the USL Championship, there was a brace for 23 year old Cameroon forward Ulrich Donovan Ewolo for North Carolina FC in their 4-2 win against Atlanta United. He opened the scoring at the 7th minute and grabbed his second and the fourth for his team at the 45th minute.
21 year old Desire Pacal Eboussi Mekongo was an unused substitute for the entire game for San Antonio FC who earned a 3-1 win against Real Monarchs. The task was made even harder for the Monarchs when their 18 year old Cameroon forward Lionel Abate Etoundi was sent off at the 41st minute of the game.
21 year old forward Tabort Etaka Preston saw yellow at the 41st minute against RGV Toros and he was substituted at the 96th minute as his team Las Vegas Lights held on to a precious 2-1 win.
Saint Louis FC were comfortable 3-0 winners at home against Bethlehem Steel. 24 year old defender Bradley Steede Kamdem Fewo was an unused substitute for Saint Louis just like 19 year old defender Steve Kingue for Bethlehem Steel.
19 year old Cameroon forward Faris Pemi Moumbagna for Bethlehem Steel and 21 year old forward Albert Dikwa Lega for Saint Louis FC were both missing from the call for their respective teams for this game.
Canada
There was a battle between two Cameroon defenders in the Canadian Premier League.
25 year old Betrand Owundi Eko’o was in central defense for Forge FC while 22 year Jeannot Esua was the left back for the home side FC Edmonton.
The game ended on a 1-1 draw with both men giving a good account of themselves as they both played the entire game.
China
Henan Jianye held on to Franck Ohandza’s 42nd minute goal to beat Beijing Guoan in Day 20 of the Chinese Super League. Ohandza left his place at the 56th minute to his compatriot Christian Bassogog.
26 year old Cameroon forward John Mary Honi Uzuegbunam did not travel with the Shenzhen team that was beaten 2-0 by Jiangsu Suning FC.
Stephane Mbia was in midfield and played the entire game for Wuhan Zall in their 1-1 home draw against Shanghai SIPG FC.
In the Chinese second tier, Nantong Zhiyun and their attacking midfielder Marius Obekop Bedzigui traveled to face Xinjiang Tianshan and came back with a point after playing to a 2-2 draw. 24 year old Obekop played the entire game. His teammate and compatriot Anatole Abang did not make the trip.
Indonesia
Cameroon’s attacking midfielder Herman Dzumafo Epandi was on target for Bhayanghara against Arema in the Indonessian Liga 1. The 39 year old scored his team’s second goal at the 64th minute but it was not enough to prevent a 3-2 defeat against Arema who had taken a three goal lead before the 60th minute of the game.
Vietnam
In Day 18 matches of the Vietnam V-League, Cameroon midfielder Aime Djicka Gassissou was on target for Da Nang in their 4-1 win against Saigon FC. Gassissou scored their second at the 47th minute.
Kazakhstan
29 year old Cameroon defender Abel Lamanje played the entire game as his team Kaisar Kyzylorda beat second placed Tobol Kostanay 0-2 away from home in a Day 20 clash of the Kazakhstan Premier League.
Bangladesh
30 year old Cameroon defender scored a 96th minute consolation for Mohammedan Dhaka FC as a fight back was too late with Muktijoddha SKC beating them at home 1-2 in a Day 23 fixture of the Bangladesh Premier League.
