Douala based Cameroon League 2 club, New Stars of Douala, have had their first training session this Wednesday, ahead of the 2019/2020 football season in Cameroon.
The open practice session guided by newly appointed coach Maurice Mpondo had a combination of new players aspiring to get contracted by the club and those already on the books of the club.
In all coach Maurice Mpondo guided just above 70 players in their first training session. Amongst the players present was last season’s wonderkid Daniel Bille,last season’s topscorer Kemajo Kemajo Junior and new signing Megatche Ngansop one time of YOSA of Bamenda.
Coach Maurice Mpondo and his assistant Eugene Elokan plus the club’s sporting director Jojo Dibango, the administrative representatives Njoya, were spotted conserting from time to time as if they were sharing ideas on which player catches their attention.
Post the first training session, coach Mpondo stated their ambitions this campaign.
“The club’s administration has put all in place and is still working to ensure that we win at least a trophy this season“; coach Mpondo told kick442.com.
New Stars of Douala ended the 2019 League 1 season in the bottom three and are expected to be involved in the League 2 championship this season. But there have been speculations that a much awaited court ruling may restore the club’s top flight status in the days ahead.
The club, the Cameroon Professional Football League which managed the championship last season and the Cameroon football federation expected to manage the upcoming season have not commented on New Stars’ status for the upcoming season.
