South African club, Mbombela United, has been reportedly relegated from the GladAfrica Championship, after 23 points were reduced from them, for using an illegible player.
According to African Sports Today, Mbombela United fielded a player by name, Sabelo Sikhali Ndzinisa for 20 matches this season. At the end of the championship, Mbombela United finished 14th in the 16 team Championship, level on points with 15 placed TS Sporting, with both teams having 32 points, but Mbombela United had a better goal difference.
Reports state that, TS Sporting who were facing relegation, had lodged a complain after Mbombela United fielded the striker against them in the first round fixture in Nelspruit. It is understood that TS Sportif is claiming that the former Mbabane Swallows F.C forward had also signed for them.
Africans Sports Today further highlight that Sabelo Ndzinisa has been handed a two year ban, while 23 points have been deducted from Mbombela United, leaving them with just nine points.
It therefore signifies that Mbombela United has been relegated to the ABC Motsepe League Mpumalanga (South Africa’s third tier), while TS Sporting stays in the GladAfrica Championship. The GladAfrica Championship is the National first division (second tier championship) in South Africa.
It is still to be known if Mbombela United has lodged an appeal against the decision, but such scenarios are recurrent in football in recent times.
Sabelo Sikhali Ndzinisa is a full Eswatini International since 2012 and counts six goals in 25 appearances for the King’s Shield.
