Botswana’s Tracy Chaba has told kick442.com that insufficient preparation affected the performance of her team in the ongoing Africa Women’s Volleyball Championship given that her team camped just for two weeks before coming for a tournament in Egypt.
Botswana faced multiple times winners Kenya, 2009 winners Algeria and current champions Cameroon in a very demanding Pool B.
The Botswana girls failed to win any of their games in the tournament and at the end of it all to Tracy submitted her thoughts:
“It was a very tough competition, we had a very tough pool with former champions Kenya, Cameroon and Algeria, that made it more difficult. But I think it was an opportunity for us to learn as we prepare for the All Africa games.
“Now its all about going to the drawing board and starting again. We need to train harder because for us we prepared for this tournament but we didn’t have any friendly matches out of the country, I think our preparation for two weeks was insufficient given that we don’t have a local league back home and our players are mostly based Botswana”.Tracy added
“I learned Cameroon had a camp in Poland that’s the kind of preparation we need. I think need more friendly games, more pre-tournament friendlies, especially International friendlies to at least compensate for the fitness issues we may have in tournaments” .
The 27 year old Kutlwano club player made her senior debut for Botswana at the age of 17.
10 years later the former Zamalek player who has also played for clubs in Algeria and Abhu Dhabi is still waxing strong with the national team.
Tracy will be one to watch out for at the All Africa game next month in Morocco.
