The Togo Football Federation has renewed the contract of experienced French tactician, Claude Le Roy, and tasked him qualify the Sparrow Hawks for the 2021 African cup of Nations scheduled for Cameroon and 2022 FIFA World cup in Qatar.

According to, the announcement was made by the president of the Togo Football Federation, Guy Akpovy, on Monday January 27, 2020.

The 71_year_old former AFCON winner with the indomitable lions of Cameroon, has been at the helm of the Togo national football team for four years now, since he took over from Tom Sainfiet in 2016. His time with the Sparrow Hawks have not really been fruitful, with the team missing out of major continental football jamboree’s.

The Togolese football authorities have however renewed their trust in the gaffer, and he has another chance to prove why he is considered as one of the best coaches in the continent.

Togo was drawn in the same group with seven times AFCON winners, Egypt, Kenya and Comoros, in the qualifiers for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, and will have to battle 2019 AFCON finalist, Senegal, Congo and Namibia, in the 2022 World cup qualifiers.

It is time for Claude Marie François Le Roy to bring in all the experience he has gathered as head coach of six other African countries, such as Ghana and Congo.
