The WAFU Zone A Women’s Tournament ended on Saturday with a surprise winner in Senegal as they stunned Mali three goals to nil.

Ndeye Diakhate opened score in the 27th minute to give Senegal the lead before Mbayang Sow increased her tournament tally to two after scoring the second goal for Senegal in the 59th minute.

Haby Balde consolidated the win ten minutes later to score Senegal’s third goal.

Prior to the final, Mali were impeccable with an 100 percent record as they scored fifteen goals and conceded none in the process.

But the Senegalese women made them to eat the humble pie at the end of the final whistle of the 2020 WAFU Women’s Tournament final.

Though the Senegalese team had also been in impressive form winning three out of four matches before the final, the Malian side were always favourite in the final.

Meanwhile, Liberia defeated Cape Verde one goal to nothing to win the third place match.

A goal by Tercer Lugar was the lone goal that separated the two sides.
