As the end first half of the league approaches, the excitement of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) continues to build as we move to match day 16 on Sunday 18th January, 2020.

League leaders, Lobi Stars of Makurdi will seek to consolidate their two weeks old leadership of the NPFL log as they host Dakkada International of Uyo.

The two sides are going into this match with defeats suffered at midweek and will be in a haste to put the setback behind them.

Lobi Stars with twenty-seven points same as Rivers United know a win will be all they need if they want to remain number one. They however have not lost at home neither have they conceded a goal at home this season.

Dakkada International have been good away losing just once on the road and may fancy their chance against the Makurdi boys.

Plateau United will go for victory after a couple of games without a win. They play an Adamawa side that has been struggling this season.

Rivers United after beating Lobi Stars are on a high and will be rearing to go to get something against Jigawa Golden Stars.

Jigawa Golden Stars lost to MFM at the midweek; a loss that didn’t help their position in the league table. This match is another opportunity for them to get the vital three points at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Heartland FC after a stunning victory over Enyimba at Aba, go against Katsina United who also got a rare away win against Dakkada International.

With both teams doing the unexpected, they face each other seeking to win to move close to the table toppers.

Katsina United had not lost in five games and it is left to be seen if Heartland FC can stop that run?

Kwara United, another team that caused an upset at the midweek, host Sunshine Stars of Akure.

Kwara United have not lost in three consecutive matches and will be hoping to take all points at the Ilorin Stadium against a Sunshine Stars that have three consecutive wins.

Ifeanyi Ubah move from one oriental derby to another. After losing to Abia warriors 2-1 host another Abia side, Enyimba International.

This derby sees two side smarting from their losses in their last games and will be seeking to win.

Enyimba are yet to get a win away from home this season while Ifeanyi Ubah have been very good at home.

Another cracker awaits league fans in Kano as Kano Pillars host Akwa United.

Pillars who are unbeaten in ten games play Kennedy Boboye’s side who a week a go were basking in the euphoria of winning five consecutive games and drawing one but lost to Kwara United at home.

The Promise keepers after the disappointing result go into the game to get a good result. While Pillars will go into this game not just to remain unbeaten but to win after another draw in the midweek against Nasarawa United.

After losing last week in their refurbished stadium, Wikki Tourist have another chance to atone for that loss as they play MFM of Lagos at the stadium.

MFM will feel they can get a good result here after Wikki’s loss to Sunshine in the same stadium and knowing that a win will take them within the top three spot.

Nasarawa United play Warri Wolves at Lafia Stadium after playing a goalless draw against Kano Pillars.

The wolves will seek to bounce back to winning ways after two back to back losses.
