Africa’s number one, Aruna Quadri of Nigeria could not progress to next round after a defeat by Boll Timo of Germany at the 2020 ITTF World Tour Platinum, German open in Magdeburg.

Boll who had defeated the Nigerian number one last year in the champions league took the day by winning by 4-2 in six sets.

Timo Boll took the first three set before Aruna Quadri tried to have another come back by taking the fourth and fifth games but Boll rallied back to win the game.

Aruna had started well taking the first two points of the first set but the German grew stronger taking the next five points and eventually took the set 11-5.

Boll won the next two sets to the cheers of the home crowd but just like in the preliminaries, the Nigerian tennis star did not crash out without a fight.

The world number 18 came back to win in the fourth set 11-3 and in the fifth set 11-8.

Despite the late surge by Aruna, the German with the home crowd’s support got a crucial set win in the sixth round to win the tie 4-2.
