At the semifinal matches played on Wednesday in the WAFU Zone A Women’s Tournament holding in Sierra Leon, Mali and Senegal progressed to the final after beating Cape Verde and Liberia respectively.
Mali continued their roller coaster ride in this tournament as they ruthlessly dispatched Cape Verde four goals to nil at the Wusum Mini Stadium.
The Malians who have been impeccable in the tournament so far completely took apart the Cape Verdean team with two goals in each half.
Highest goal scorer in the tournament, Aguissa Diarra scored the opener to give Mali the lead.
She added another ten minutes later to take her tally in the WAFU Women’s Tournament to seven goals.
Another top scorer in the tournament, Senebu Sidibe scored another brace in the second half taking her tally to five and giving Mali a four nil victory to progress to the final.
On the other hand, Senegal got a 2-1 win over Liberia at the BO Mini Stadium in the second semi final game.
Nguenar Ndiaye scored in the 18th minutes of the game to put Senegal in front.
Ndeye Diakhate made it two for the Taranga lionesses to put them in good lead as the match move to the end of the half in the 33rd minutes.
Angeline B Kien scored in the 56th minutes for Liberia to give them a life line but the Senegalese held on to the slim lead to advanced to the finals.
The third place match between Liberia and Cape Verde and the final match between Mali and Senegal will take place on Saturday, 7th March, 2020.
