34_year_old Kenyan sports journalist, Bonface Osano, has stated that it is time to put an end to the rangles in Kenyan football, so that more efforts can be put on bringing Kenyan football to the limelight.
Bonface on Thursday August 06, 2020, officially declared his intentions to contest for the presidency in the forthcoming elections at the Football Kenyan Federation (FKF), stating that Kenyan football needs fresh ideas to take it to the next stage.
Speaking to Kick442.com, Bonface Osano says it’s time to end the stagnation in Kenyan football.
“My greatest motivation to go for the FKF presidency, is to take the game to the next level because I think as a Country, we have stagnated too far, not because we lack the potential, but simply because we lack the needed leadership to harness the talent that we have”, said Bonface Osano.
“We have been to the AFCON a couple of times, but we have never been to the world cup, not because we lack the talent, but we always fail to do the right things. One of the biggest hurdles we’ve had, is lots of rangles in Kenyan football and I think it’s time for somebody to bring all these things to an end, so that the focus can be on developing the game”, he added.
With his rich experience in covering sports in Kenya and throughout the African continental, he believes it’s time for him to leave the talk and do the do.
“Haven covered the game closely as a journalist, I feel that I have seen all these problems and I can come on board, instead of just talking from the sidelines. I want to see how I can put some of the ideas I have, into action”.
Bonface Osano’s campaign, is based on the platforms of Governance and accountability, the formation of partnership with all stakeholders and Commercialization. Something which he says is lacking in the present set up.
“The greatest ingredients that Kenyan football lacks, is accountability. A leadership that can be trusted by all the stakeholders. That’s from the government, cooperates and the fans. For now there is alot of suspicion in how Kenyan football is being governed and I think this is an impediment in making Kenyan football attract all the support that it needs to grow. So this is what I intend to fix and once that is done, Kenyan football will explode”.
Elections into the Football Kenyan Federation were initially planned for December 2019, but have witnessed lots of delays, as they tried to resolve internal rangles which brought the Easth African Nations on the brink of an international ban.
On Friday August 07, 2020, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board confirmed that they have received the FIFA roadmap that is expected to be unveiled to stakeholders in Nairobi on Tuesday August 11, 2020.
Other candidates who will be vying for the top job, includes incumbent President, Nick Mwendwa, Herbert Mwachiro, and Nick Musonye. Though they are all experienced personalities in the field, Bonface Osano is trusting the ground works he is putting in place.
“I’m doing all it takes to gather all the support that I need to grab the big seats. I’m not underrating my opponents, some of them have been around and I appreciate their experience in the political field, but I’m also up to the game”.
Bonface Osano is not new in football management in Kenya. Apart from being a renowned sports journalist and analyst, he had previously served as deputy secretary at one time Kenyan premier league side, Agro Chemicals FC. He is dedicated to serve Kenyan football, even if the elections doesn’t go his way.
