Rigobert Song B.will face his former national team coach, Ibrahim Tanko when Cameroon clash with Ghana in an all-debutant duel at the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday evening.

The match will take place at the Cairo International Stadium.

It will be a historic face to face meeting between Song and Tanko who worked together as player and coach respectively for Cameroon’s senior National team. Rigobert Song was still a player when the former Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg forward was deputy head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

“Facing my former coach is also a big challenge for me and I want to prove I’m up to it” Song told CAF Online.

The Ghanaian tactician who retired from football after a 15-year-professional career was assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions from 2013-2015 under German coach Volke Finke.

He was introduced as one of the assistant coaches by Finke in June 2013 and later joined the team technical bench. He worked with Finke for a long time.

Ibrahim Tanko is presently head coach of Ghana’s U-23 men’s team. He guided the Black Meteors to their maiden U-23 African Cup of Nations finals.

Rigobert Song played for Cameroon from 1993-2010 and had 137 appearance scoring five goals. He won back to back nations cup in 2000 and 2002 with Cameroon and currently coach the Under 23 national team of Cameroon with whom he will be appearing at the tournament for the first time.
