The intermediate amateur lions of Cameroon have recorded their first three points in the Total CHAN 2020 thanks to their 1#0 victory against the warriors of Zimbabwe in the opening match played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde.
Salomon Charles Bienvenue Banga scored the lone goal for Cameroon.
*MATCH REVIEW*
The intermediate lions of Cameroon started the match on a good footing putting pressure on the defense line of Zimbabwe as they won an early free kick just few metres away from the 18metres area but the free kick was well defended by Zimbabwe.
At the third and fourth minute of the match, the intermediate lions won the first and second corner kicks of the match but it was nothing to worry about for Zimbabwe.
Several attempts from the warriors of Zimbabwe to build play from their own half was all futile as the lions remained solid in midfield and defense.
Cameroon’s first shot on target came in at the 12th minute of play when Felix Oukine’s saw his shot saved by goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda.
At the 18th minute of play, Cameroon recorded another shot on target when striker, Alfred Meyong saw his shot saved by Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper.
A minute later, Zimbabwe’s Taderera Wellington had a weak shot on target saved by goalkeeper Haschou Kerrido.
All other attempts from both teams were futile as both teams were unable to penetrate the defenses as the first half ended on a virgin all tie.
SECOND HALF
Upon resumption of the second, the intermediate lions were again in action through team captain Zoua Daogari Jacques whose shot went inches off target.
Coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile will then conduct the first substitution of the match when he brought in Ndjeng Joseph Yannick in the place of Bryand Soga.
Coach Zdravko Logarusic will respond by bringing in Chirinda Obriel for Taderera Wellington.
Alfred Meyong and Ako Assomo will also see their shots going off target.
At the 68th minute of play, Bryand Soga missed a golden opportunity to give the intermediate lions the lead as his header went off target to the disappointment of the fans.
Three minutes later, Solomon Charles Bienvenue Banga from a cross that was not well dealt with by the defenders of Zimbabwe, sent an acrobatic kick that went pass goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda to give Cameroon the lead.
Coach Zdravko Logarusic responded with two substitutions as with Leeroy Mavunga and Ronald Chitiyo replaced by Denver Mukamba and King Munyaradzi Nadolo
It took a fine save from goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda to stop Thierry Tchuente from doubling Cameroon’s lead.
