The second half of the Southwest Regional Championship commenced in the town of Limbe on Saturday the 25th with a Limbe local derby pitting LIFCA against Best stars in the Limbe Middle Farms Stadium.
The Middle Farms Stadium was a full house mostly because of the bad blood between the two in the reversed fixture that ended 0-0.
It came to pass that Best Stars Academy started the game in fine fashion, calling on goal keeper Chidiobi Ebere Festus twice in the opening first four minutes; Ferdinand Nyuyki ground his shot into the the hands of the goalkeeper while captain Leonard Ngwa’s shot from range was parried away by goal keeper Chidiobi Ebere of LIFCA.LIFCA then responded when Ekoi Manfred lost the ball outside his area, but Bisong Tanyi wasn’t able to make the U17 goal keeper pay. The intensity of the game brought about a first half substitution for LIFCA; Jersey number 8, Elvis Ndip left his place for Yannick Ako-after his coach didn’t want to take a chance for his midfielder who was walking on fine lines.
In the second 45 minutes captain Brice Tobi Ashu posed a threat with some surging runs in the early minutes of the second half, but his opposite number made the midfield battle very tough and the Midfield pair cancelled each other for chunks of the second segment.
Mid way into the second half (60-65 minutes) the tackles became even more malicious, leading to the dishing out of yellow cards to the both sides.
The entry of Jersey number 12 for LIFCA-Mbonso Clovis brought in width and impetus from the right – Fomen Beckly got to the end of one in the 78th minute of play to make it 1-0
Ekoi Manfred once more was caught on one of those failed dribbles and caused a penalty this time that was converted by Ivan Nana, and the advantage was doubled with just 8 minutes to the end-that was pretty much that.
LIFCA go ahead of Best stars by 1 point in group C
