One of the major award dished out at the close of the Northwest Regional league was that dedicated to match officials. The award given to match officials is to recognize their efforts in the beautiful game of football.
At the close of Sunday’s final, the best referee and assistant referee in both the male and female categories received recognitions from the Northwest FECAFOOT bureau. But who are these referees and assistant referees?
Tchie Ruben, Best Male Referee
He is unarguably the right person for the award. He began refereeing here in the Northwest region since 2013. Speaking to kick442.com, he revealed his admiration for the whistle from childhood. When he got to Bamenda, he met Ngwa Blaise (FIFA international referee) who at the time was a national elite two referee. It’s thanks to his encouragement and guidance throughout this period till date that he is where he is today. He equally had some kind words for Afang Frankline, Njichu Clovis, Mbaku Richard, Nchinda Charles and Asang Martin just to name a few.
He is a disciplined and level headed referee who won the heart of many during the semi finals second leg between Universal Soccer Academy and Rainbow FC when he intervened in a critical situation. He is definitely the best the region can boast of and will be looking forward for promotion to the national league two championship.
Fanka Fidelis, Best Male Assistant Referee.
Just like Ruben, he began refereeing in 2013. During the 2017/2018 football season, he officiated as 1st assistant referee in the mini Interpools finals just like this season. He is undoubtedly the best assistant male referee the region can boast of and is among the favourites to gain national league two promotion.
Chin Valantine, Best Feminine Referee.
She also started refereeing in 2013. This was due to her love for football that she couldn’t play. So she decided to get into football by refereeing. Prior to this year’s final which she officiated as 2nd assistant referee, she had received one other Awards; the ministers cup finals at Mbengwi where she was given an award as the best female referee.

Bilancey Michelle, Best Assistant Feminine Referee
She is barely a few months into refereeing. She started at the beginning of the season when she served as 2nd assistant referee in the match Ebaidino Vs Universal Soccer Academy and since then she has always been at the top of her game. Her award didn’t come as a surprise.
