Bamboutos FC of Mbouda will on Friday October 18, 2019, lock horns with Colombe sportive of the Dja and lobo, in the league one opener for the 2019/2020 football season. The encounter is billed for 18:30, at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé.
Bamboutos is making a comeback in the top tier championship, after spending last season in the league two. The mangwa boys will rely on their huge fan base, to get the three points, and set the agenda for the new football season.
Colombe on their part, narrowly escaped relegation last term, and have invested much into the depth of their squad, as they looking forward to challenging the big dogs in the league this season.
HEAD TO HEAD.
Fridays showdown will be just the third ever meeting between the two sides. In their last two meetings, both sides have recorded one win and one defeat each. The very first meeting between the two sides was on April 9, 2017, in game day eight of the league one championship. Bamboutos won 2#0, but Colombe eventually won the return leg on August 6, 2017, 1#0.
Both sides have been very active in the transfer window, especially the mangwa boys, who have gone in for some top signings. Bamboutos has brought in the likes of goalkeepers Patrick Lionel Kibyen from New stars and Narcisse Junior Nlen from Leopard sportif of Douala. They have also injected fresh blood in their defense, with the arrival of Gael Eroume from Avion, Jeff Ngongang from Eding, Ngombe Etame François (free agent) and Donatien Tchami from Leopard.
Their midfield was boasted with the arrival of Former YOSA man Mark Ojong, Aristide Medjo from New stars, and Hansi Muller Mbappe from Leopard. Their attack line will benefit from the expertise and goal scoring prowess of former elite one Ballon D’or winner, Arouna Dang, Former league two top scorer Aime Gerard Mangolo, Kami Nyabeye and Kako Rostand.
For Colombe, they brought in 14 New players, with the likes of goalkeeper Julius Atengong (from PWD), Georges Bikele, Emmanuel Bollo, Junior Kaaba, Oldono Mebenga, hoping to make their debuts on Friday.
Laurent Djam will be making his competitive debut in the dugouts for the mangwa boys. Djam is just fresh from winning the league one championship with UMS of Loum, and is looking set to leading a title challenge with Bamboutos.
On the side of Colombe, coach Gabriel Zabo will be in charge of his first full season, after he took over towards the end of last season, after Charlemagne Mbongo was sent parking.
STADIUM AND TIME.
The historic Amadou Ahidjo stadium is the host venue for the game. Mfandena as it is commonly called, will certainly be highly animated especially by the thousands of Bamboutos fans on a Friday night. It is the first league one game of the season, and the first nocturnal game that kicks off at 18:30.
international referee, Alioum Sidi, will set the ball rolling, just as he did in the 2019 AFCON.
