Cameroon’s sports minister, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, has had an audience with Jean Matip, the father of Cameroon and Liverpool defender, Joel Matip.

The audience took place at the Cameroon Sports ministry on Monday January 20, 2020, and was confirmed on the official Facebook page of professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.

“I received in audience Jean Matip, father of international footballers, Joel and Marvin Matip, who gave me a symbolic gift from his son Joel Matip, a ball bearing his signature”, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi wrote on his Facebook page.

He continued ” In return, I congratulated him for his remarkable performance recently with his club, especially at Liverpool, with whom he was crown champions of Europe in 2019″.

All the two sons of Jean Matip, Joel and Marvin Matip, have both played for the Cameroon men’s national football team, with Joel Matip counting 27 caps and one goal for the indomitable lions, between 2010, to 2015, when he last wore the green, red and yellow colours.

Joel Matip

The 28_year_old center back is enjoying the best moment of his football, with European champions, Liverpool, where he has formed a formidable partnership with Virgil Van Dijk. However, Joel Matip has turned down several invitations to play for the indomitable lions since 2015, and was selected for the 2017 African cup of Nations, but he rejected the call_up.

Many Cameroonians and football lovers have been clamouring for his return to the lions den, and minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi used the meeting with Jean Matip, as a last ditch attempt to convince Joel.

“I reminded him of all the love and hopes that the Cameroonian public has on his son, Joel Matip, as an indomitable lion”, said Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.

Joel Matip was born to a German mother and his father Jean Matip, is a former footballer,  just like his Cousin Joseph Désire Job. Cameroon will host Africa in January 2021, for the African cup of Nations, and it will be a joy for the football loving Cameroonian public, to see former Schalke 04 man, commanding the defensive axis of the indomitable lions. Let’s wait and see if the outcome of the Narcisse Mouelle Kombi versus Jean Matip audience, can be the comeback of Joel Matip into the Cameroon national team.
