The newly appointed head coach of the indomitable lions of Cameroon, António Conceição da Silva Oliveira, has officially taken up duty, following the signing of his contract this Friday, at the ministry of sports.

In the present of sports minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi and FECAFOOT’s president, Seidou Mbombo Njoya, António Conceição and his assistants, François Oman Biyik and Jacques Songo’o put pen to paper for a two year contract that will run till the 2021 AFCON.

The contract form carried three signatures, that of the coach, minister of sports and FECAFOOT’s president. Added to the coach’s signature, was that of three other personalities who makes up his Entourage. That is the physical trainer, video analyst and his agent.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony, minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi congratulated Conceição and his staff for their appointment, stating that this is a new beginning for Cameroon football, and the indomitable lions in particular. He reiterated that the task given to the new technical staff, is to qualify Cameroon for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and make sure that Cameroon reach the final of the 2021 AFCON that the country will host. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi informed Conceição that the selection of players for the national team should be based purely on merit.

Amongst some of the terms agreed in Conceição’s contract, is that the Portuguese will be based in Cameroon, throughout his contract.

The 58_year old Portuguese Conceição was appointed as the indomitable lion’s new gaffer, on September 20, 2019, in what will be his first national team coaching job and his first experience in Africa. He has previously coached several clubs in Europe, such as CFR Cluj (Romania), Nea Salamina in Cyprus, FC Porto and SC Braga in his native Portugal, amongst others. He now officially takes over from where Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert left after the 2019 AFCON.

Conceição’s first outing with the indomitable lions, will be on October 12, 2019, when Cameroon takes on Tunisia, in a friendly game.
